5 Reasons Why I’m Not Buying a Macbook

September 28, 2007

1. Familiarity over New Technology. I admit, I’m lazy when it comes to learning new technology. The same reason why I’ve never owned a mobile phone that is NOT Nokia. (Sony Ericson and Motorola phones make me lost.) As I’ve used Windows my whole life, getting myself used to a new OS is something I seriously have to think about.

2. Software compatibility. They say softwares compatible to Mac are hard to find, and a bit more expensive too. I’m a software rat. I try all sorts of programs, even when I don’t need them, anyway, I can always uninstall. I can’t imagine not being able to do this with my laptop.

3. Control Functions. Right now, I don’t use a mouse with my laptop. I’m a shortcut person. I overuse shortcuts and control functions (i.e. CTRL-V, CTRL-C, CTRL-X), especially when photoshop-ing. Truth be told, the first time I played around with a friend’s macbook, I freaked out when I couldn’t use the control functions. Macbook has a special key for this purpose. In connection, the macbook’s keyboard is far from the regular ones I use since gradeschool. (No backspace too, just delete, I hear?)

4. No Right Click. I’m a right-click person too. Heh. I right-click icons all the time. I righ-click words and images. I right-click everything. With Mac’s touchpad, there’s only one button, and you have to press another key with it if you want the right-click function. Hate it.

5. I don’t have a car. LOL. I just find it risky to ride jeepneys carrying a macbook (and say, my Nikon D40) around. But okay. Not like this really matters.

My reasons are shallow, I know. I guess that means, me buying a Macbook is negotiable and still possible. Let me tell you more about that later. :)

Ipod Nano Gets New Look

September 6, 2007

Is it just me or the new iPod nano looks kind of similar to Creative’s Zen V Plus in some way?

Pink Zen V Plus side-by-side with the new Pink Ipod Nano

Must be the rounded corners. But okay, fine, maybe it’s just me.

And by the way, what’s with the new iPod Nano ad? Go watch it and tell me where in the world the iPod nano is there.

P.S. Don’t get me wrong. I like the redesign. :)

Pink Sony Vaio is Love

May 22, 2007

Don’t get me wrong. I sooo love Ice. But the combination of pink and technology simply makes me.. kilig. (You know, tingling all over, butterflies in the stomach, eyes twinkling with sheer excitement, weak in the knees, you get the drift.) I’m in love. ♥

So here’s another addition to my ever-growing wishlist. :D

A Blush Pink Sony Vaio

Can you read the marketing pitch from the image above? It says:

“Celebrate youth and femininity with Blush Pink. Like a yummy confection, it puts a smile on your face. A bright pink accent line, cool Hexa edges, and a dimpled palm rest enhance the fun. Wear matching pink lipstick and nail polish for the ultimate spirited mobility! Make the passionate choice — Blush Pink VAIO C25G/P.” (Emphases mine.)

I never thought I’d see the word “yummy” and “dimpled” in a marketing collateral of a LAPTOP. Oh, and what about that wearing a matching pink lipstick and nail polish for the ultimate in free-spirited mobility thing they’re talking about? Does the laptop become faster or more high-tech when you’re wearing pink lipstick and nail polish? :) I think they went overboard there but whatdaheck, which girl, in her right mind, wouldn’t want a pink laptop like this?

Fine. I shall not generalize lest some people start raising their eyebrows on me. So I’m only speaking for myself. I think pink is love. And pink laptops is obssession. Haha! I’d love to get one of these. :P

The Blush Pink Sony Vaio comes with an Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology, Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 80GB HD, DVD±RW/±R DL/RAM Drive, among others. Yeah, I knooow, Vista again. But like I said in one of my posts over there, I don’t mind going through the whole process of degrading the OS to XP again, if it would mean getting the pink laptop to work with Globe Visibility. But that’s another story. Let’s not talk about that right now and try to dwell in the pinkness of things instead. :P

Now for those who cringe at the sight of pink, you might be interested to know that this Sony Vaio also comes in other prettyful eyecandy colors. :)

Globe Visibility Not (Yet) Vista-Friendly

April 13, 2007

I didn’t have to think twice about Globe Visibility. Taking Marc’s word for it, I subscribed for Globe’s Mobile Broadband service as soon as my laptop (a dainty 14″ Acer Travelmate) was shipped to me almost three weeks ago (March 24). I even went to the same Globe service center Marc recommended (The Hub @ Podium), and looked for Francis, who was, true enough, very accommodating and ehem, cute too (I didn’t see any wedding ring yet girls, by the way. Harhar.)

I didn’t anticipate, however, a few important things. My Acer Travelmate is operating on Windows Vista, and apparently, Globe has yet to create a plugin that will make Visibility work with it. (Grrr.) While MAC users can already download a plugin that will make Visibility work here, Francis told me the sad news that the plugin for Vista is still under petition and has not yet been developed. Gah.

I already signed up for a 24-month contract, and paid for the initial payment of P4,000 (2K for the Huawei E220 HSDPA USB modem setup, and 2K for the first month’s subscription) when I found out about this annoying Vista roadblock. Hence, postponing my subscription is not anymore an option.

So right now, I’m (still) using Dellilah (a Dell Inspiron 6000 Core Duo) until such time I’ve decided what to do with Ice (the Acer laptop). So far, Globe Visibility’s 3G connection has proven very consistent — I’ve tested its connection in Ortigas, Shaw Blvd, Caloocan, Manila (University Belt), EDSA, South Express Way, Cubao, and Tanauan Batangas — and aside from (very) few shutters here and there, I’m satisfied. Overall, Globe Visibility ROCKS, and Windows Vista SUCKS. :)

I wish there’s a way I can make Visibility work with Ice. Suggestions, anyone? I’m seriously considering to downgrade to XP, after all, I’m not very impressed with Windows Vista naman. It still has a lot of bugs, and even though the interface is sleek and posh (and very MAC-ish, hehe), I’m never after the “looks” anyway.
