My Macbook’s Pretending to be Pink

Edit. Oh. And did you notice? My OS is now Leopard. Yay. :)

Remember how I once gushed about wanting to have a pink macbook? Well, here goes another dream come true for me. :)

And I didn’t have to spend $500 to have it in pink. I just shopped for pink macbook accessories, like this hot pink crystal case (P2,500)

and this pink keypad shield (P600)

And voila! My macbook — pretty in pink! :) And it’s really prettier in real life than how I imagined it from pictures I found online.

I’m really loving it and all, except that I get to have some Legally Blonde moments here and there. Like when I have to open my laptop here in the office in front of a bunch of managers clad in black and white macs who can’t help but to smile (smirk?!) at me — get the picture??! Oh well. There goes the price of.. being yourself. Boo. :P

Having Problems Using Yahoo Messenger with your MacBook’s iSight?

Posting this one just in case you’re having the same problem too.

I have not been able to use my webcam with YM ever since I got my MacBook. I’ve asked my supplier about it once or twice but never really found a solution to my webcam problem. Which sucks, especially since having a long-distance relationship REQUIRES a webcam. LOL. I mean, you can just imagine the tantrums my boyfriend throws my way everytime my webcam shuts down on him every after 15 seconds. Boo.

I thought it was my Mac’s iSight that has problems, and I was all set to take my laptop to an Apple center to have it checked. Turns out, it’s not the iSight that has problems, it’s the Yahoo Messenger.

So yup, if that’s your problem too — YM webcam shutting off every after 15 seconds and you have to re-invite the person you’re chatting with to view your webcam every 15-friggin-seconds — don’t fret, you’re not the only one.

Interestingly, I found out a way around this little problem of mine through a thread at PhilMug (a local Mac users group here in the Philippines). The thread presented several alternatives, and all of them includes ditching your YM altogether, that is, if there’s a need to use your webcam regularly.

Use AIM in iChat
Use Skype
Use aMSN

I tried all three and settled with aMsn.

Works great for me. :)

And teh boyfriend? He’s smiling from ear to ear. Boo.

Mac OS X Leopard is Apple’s Vista?

..or so they say.

After the release of Leopard, I immediately contacted the agent I got my Macbook from to ask if I could get a free OS update. He happily said yes, but he also suggested that I wait a few months more because the new Mac OS X still has a lot of bugs.

It didn’t take a while before I started seeing ugly comments about upgrade problems, and scary stories on the “blue screen of death.” Remember when Vista was just launched? Well, the feedbacks I saw are almost as ugly-scary as that. I guess all I’m saying is.. contrary to my recent regrets, I think I got my Macbook at the right time.

Raaaaawrrr!!

Yep, you got it right. I think Imma stick wit mah Tiger OS for now. :)

Shopping for Pink MacBook Accessories

It’s true what they say. With a MacBook, once you pop, you can’t stop. Boo. But it’s okay, because Sydney (that’s my Mac’s name) is soo pretty she deserves all the attention and pampering in the world.

On the other hand, the one thing I really hate about the white MacBook is, the keypad and the trackpad are both too sensitive to thumbmarks and dirt. I have to wipe it up twice a day to remove the marks, it’s starting to get annoying. I need to have one of those keypad skins already. Also, since I can’t afford to have my Mac painted pink (which would cost me 500 USD), I’m gona have to improvise and find pink stuff to adorn my MacBook.

The pink keypad skin is already on its way. I’m getting it from this guy, the same person I got my Moleskine Journal from. Really fast and efficient service, you should check his catalog out. And cheap too. The keypad skin is actually sold at P1,500 at the Mac Center at Cyberzone Megamall. But from him, it’s only P650!! :) I’m getting the pink crystal case from him too.

As for the trackpad skin, hurry over to this site and get one yourself. They have lots of different colors and designs! And it’s only P350. Yay. Watch out for my pinkified MacBook soon.

Leopard, Oh Leopard, Why Now?

I knew I should have waited. Less than a month after I bought my Macbook, Apple announces the exact launch date of Leopard, the latest, most impressive Mac OS X which will sweep away all other operating systems in the history of man. (Okay, whutever).

Gaah. I suddenly hate these Apple people. WHY NOW? When I got mine just a few weeks ago! Pft! Silly me for not reading too much. I should’ve seen this coming :(

I read from one of Migs’ twits, though, that Apple usually gives free upgrades when you just got your Mac. Izthattrueee? Anyone can confirm this? I sooo want that Leopard. :(

6 Reasons Why I’m Buying a MacBook

Er, I actually bought one already. After weighing the pros and cons of shifting to Mac, I was finally convinced. Apple is teh way to go baby, at least as far as my present requirements and resources are concerned. Here are some of the reasons why:

1. Relatively cheap. It took me weeks canvassing for better and cheaper alternatives. I found out that it’s a popular misconception that Macs are expensive because come to think of it, it may be a bit on the high-end, but actually, you’re getting a lot from your investment. Specs-wise, a basic MacBook’s counterpart from other brands (Acer, Vaio, Compaq) are priced on the same range.

2. Local Tech Support. I bought my Acer Travelmate from Amazon.com and asked a friend to hand-carry it back home because it was cheaper that way. Back then, I didn’t know where to go when I needed to troubleshoot my Acer. But now, since I got my Mac from a local dealer, with warranty and free software installations (I gave them a list of all the software I need), I got myself an all-day YM support too. Like I said, for what it’s worth, it’s relatively cheap.

3. Drag and Drop. Everything is drag and drop. I love how I can move everything around with just my finger, and the interface looks pretty neat too. All the softwares I need are on the dock, and I especially love the Dashboard and Expose preference. So. Cool.

4. Easy to Learn Function Keys. I said I’m a right-click person, and now I found out that there’s a way I can do right-click with Mac. I’m getting the hang of the Apple key already, too. Yay me. It’s easy to learn really. Scroll up and down and right-click with two fingers on the touchpad. Drag and drop. Expose. Replace CTRL with APPLE. Apple+Spacebar to search for a particular document or application. And. I. Am. Speaking. In. Jargons.

5. Globe Visibility Compatible. Vista isn’t. (Or wasn’t?) It took me five easy steps to setup Globe Visibility with Mac (and surprisingly, the connection is fast too!). I’ve had it with Vista before, I don’t even want to bother finding out if they already found a way to have GV work with Vista. I don’t EVER want to go back there again. Heh.

6. Prettyful. White looks sooo chic on gadgets. I’d love a Pink Sony Vaio, but as it is only available in HK, and Vista never really worked for me, it’s easy to decide on getting a white MacBook which is equally eye-candy to this girlygeek over here.

Yep, you got it people. I’m officially a Mac convert. Yay ME.
