Why Nikon D40x is NOT a Good Buy

There are a lot of reasons, but I’ll state just two.

1. When it was launched, it costed $200 more than the Nikon D40. And for what? For higher resolution? Not worth it. :) Especially if you care more about your DSLR’s flash shutter speed. D40x has a much slower maximum flash shutterspeed than the D40. Like what I always say to people who ask me, I’d save the $200 excess to buy a better lens. Or a better flash, perhaps. Why don’t you go over to Kenrockwell’s review site to save me time explaining? He wrote a pretty extensive review on D40x. :) Besides, you’ll probably believe an expert photographer more than you’ll believe me. :)

2. The Nikon D40x is rumored to be faced out soon, and will be replaced by a better, more powerful Nikon D60. I’d drool over the upcoming Nikon D60, but I think about the pros and cons, and the value of my money, and I’d still probably end up choosing the classic Nikon D80. But of course, if budget is a priority, Nikon D40, IMHO, is still the best investment you can get.

I say, get a Nikon D40 (I hear it costs about P22K nalang, if you’re gona buy it from Hidalgo, Quiapo — teh ultimate photography haven here in the Philippines), and spend the rest of your money buying better lens. Don’t be deceived by the “x”. The “x” in Nikon D40x does not mean more. :)

Hi Joni. Tara na, let’s buy your camera. :P

The Nikon D40 That Blogging Bought

It came sooner than I thought! Yay!

After barely three months of drooling over Nikon D40, I finally got myself one. Yay me! I wasn’t really planning to get one yet because there are far more urgent things that I need to save up for, but my ever influential Ninong Dave (photography guru slash spiritual adviser slash supportive cousin) presented me an offer I couldn’t resist. I had to grab it, impulsive as it may seem. So Thursday night, I had my very own Nikon D40 in my hands. Woohoo!

Then again, you can’t expect anything from the first try. I’m still getting myself acquainted with Konks (that’s her name), and I’m uber-excited. And Click Happy is happier too. :)

With my cousin, Tracy, and Konks, The Nikon D40 that Blogging Bought.

Good for me, Konks came in time for the Digital Photographer Philippine’s Sampaloc Street Photoshoot 2 (slash EB) which happened last Saturday. It was the second event of the same kind, and I was there the first time also. Back then, however, I was using a Kodak point-and-shoot. Now in spite of all the pressure and frustrations that came with being a newbie, I couldn’t think of a better way to learn serious photography than learning first-hand from the best photographers in the land! So I clicked and clicked, learned about apertures and shutterspeeds, and asked a lot of questions!

The result — my 1 gig SD card bursting with high-quality shots, about 60% of which were blurred, 20% were overexposed, 15% were too dark, and just about 5% worth showing to the public. Haha. Oh well, there’s always a first. I’m sooo excited to learn.

So here’s my addition to the list of things that blogging bought — may it forever be cached in Google, along with the house, the car, the laptop, the mobile phones, the Canon 400D, and well, there’s a lot more I’m sure. Yay me! :)

Which Pink Digital Camera?

So here’s the thing. I think the Nikon D40 dream has to wait another month. Or two. I guess I was pretty vocal about the financial part as being a big consideration. And for someone like me, a woman of unlimited interests and limited budget (LOL), I have to know how to play my cards right. For the next two months, I might have more important things to spend that $599 D40 budget with. Sigh. Patience, Riz.

BUT, I still need a digital camera, and this can’t wait another two months. I think the one thing nice about investing on a point and shoot digital camera is that I can purchase it from the mall, swipe my card, and pay for it on an installment basis. That’s the same way I got my mobile phone. I didn’t have to wait until I have the money before I get to start using it.

So that’s what I was thinking. Besides, I told Ninong that even with a DSLR, I still might need something small and dainty I can carry around with anywhere.

Pink Sony Cybershot vs Pink Canon IxusSo what am I looking for? Specs come in second. I need something pink. (I mean, if I’m planning to get that D40 anyway, I might as well get something pink for a camtoy, right?) So after looking around, I end up with these two options: A Pink Sony Cybershot DSC-T10 or a Pink Canon Ixus i7.

And let me just say it was fun searching for pink digital cameras because you end up in sites like this and that, and you’d feel like, *insert perky voice* omygosh, I’m not alone, they actually understand what I’m talking about and stuff *perky voice off*
