I’d Say, Quit Your Day Job & Become a Full-time Blogger

May 22, 2007

Blog hopping brought me to this site, where I found this interesting blogger job opening.

Wanted: Wordpress Blogger

Bedzine Inc., a start-up online media and e-commerce company, is looking for blogger who can blog about the latest trends on the following topics:

  • Bedzine.com - beds
  • Sleepzine.com - sleep
  • Mattresszine.com - mattress
  • Keetsa.com - Eco-friendly and Green
  • sfblogg.com - San Francisco and Bay Area

We’re looking for an experienced BLOGGER, who:

  • has been blogging on their own site for at least 6 months
  • has a positive and fun personality
  • can write at least 10 original entries per day, with pictures, links, and tags
  • has an interest in one or more of the topics listed above
  • We are looking for someone who can find interesting things fast and also blog fast.

I had to blink a couple of times to make sure I was seeing it right. 10 posts a day? This clearly isn’t just any freelance blogging stint. IMO, ten posts a day is just too much if you have an 8am-5pm job. I once did freelance writing which required me at least 2000 words a day on top of my dayjob, and I’m telling you, it’s not easy at all. Barely three months into it, I realized I had to stop and get a life. I swear I can still remember those sleepless nights…. but okay, let’s not go there. Hehe.

What caught my attention in this particular blogger opening, however, aside from having to blog 10 posts a day about beds and mattresses, is the amount the job is worth.

Compensation is $1000 a month.

Yay. Must be why they require at least 10 posts a day. Hehe! $1000 a month may not be much, but in Philippine currency, $1000 (about 47,000 php) is just about the average compensation of a managerial position in a local company. But inasmuch as I’d welcome any blogging stint (I don’t care if I’ll have to write about beds, or paper clips, or pedestrian lanes), I seriously cannot imagine 10 blog posts a day.

If only I was more of a risk-taker, I’d probably resign from my full-time job, apply for this blogger position, and blog about beds and mattresses my whole life. Then I won’t have to worry about the rent, and gas allowance, and credit card bills. I’ll just stay home and blog. But I’m not a risk-taker. And I still kindof love my job. So I’m not going to let the $$$ blind me.

But of course that’s just me. If you’re looking for a challenging and lucrative blogging job, and you can do it on a part-time basis, then maybe you can do this one. What do you say, Rico? :P
