Inspiration Doesn’t Come Everyday

June 22, 2007

But today, it did in the form of Jeff Figueiredo. Jeff who?

I didn’t know about him until today, too. And it’s not like we don’t hear interviews like this all the time. I guess this one just came at a time when I needed to be inspired. ♥ I’m kilig! (And by kilig I meant inspired, for the lack of better term.)

And no, I’m not saying this because I think it’s cute how he says “Perfect!” (he said it twice) in between blabbering about Search Engine Marketing and Google Analytics. I’m saying this because I barely understood some of the things he was talking about, and the NOT KNOWING part gave me the goosebumps: I have a lot to learn. Two years into this industry and this whole Search Engine Marketing game is still new to me. And maybe this applies to everyone because with SEM, there’s always something new to learn.

So anyawy, meet Jeff Figueiredo, Senior Strategist at a Seattle-based SEM agency. I guess the fact that he’s not known to be one of them SEO rockstars we often read and hear about adds more to the wow-factor, at least for me. Here’s but an ordinary guy, not really a celebrity, doing SEM magic in his own territory. Interviewed by The Robert Scoble, which can also be found here.

I remember how my boss (slash mentor) used to gush about that feeling of being kilig everytime he learns something new about SEM. Gaah. I’m feeling it too. (Good job, boss!)

Interview notes:
+ As a SE Marketer, his work revolves around having clients get the most out of Adwords, and the Yahoo & MSN platforms. He does SEO too, and tracks over a million keywords (for Adwords).
+ Broad Match, Phrase Match, Exact Match. Monitor the web for missed keywords and get (and test) every single keyword variation possible.
+ Maximize use of free Google Analytics.
+ “There’s more dollars in play and Google is getting more of those dollars.” Google gets 55% to 80% client share, converts better than Yahoo and MSN. Adwords is still overall superior than the other platforms coz they make it easier for advertisers to use their platform.
+ ..and a whole more juicy stuff.

I’m stopping here, but you do get the point right? :) This guy’s talking about a holistic approach to Search Engine Marketing, combining both organic and paid search listings (actually focusing more on paid search) to achieve their clients’ overall online marketing campaign goals. Scoble entitled this interview “A Look into a Search Engine Marketer’s Life.”

Gah. I have a looong way to go before I can call myself a Search Engine Marketer.

Maybe I should stick with Professional Blogger, or Full-time Mom someday. Ha! NOT!

P.S. See, this site is no feminist. :P

  1. Scoble Schmoble and what-could-be the future of SEO | Pinkseo says:

[...] I’ve always been one of Robert Scoble’s thousands of readers. His videos, to me (being a wide-eyed SEO newbie), have become a spectator sport as I’ve come to learn from them a lot about this online industry that’s still relatively new to me. I guess it doesn’t hurt to say that more often than not, I’m still in that point where I’d blindly accept their opinions as truths, hence when some SEO guru states the SEO armaggedon has come, I’d probably start panicking and digging a whole in the ground. And we’re talking about Robert Scoble here. The tech evangelist. The guy who I once thought was pro-SEM (I even blogged about one of his interviews once, that one with Jeff Figueiredo). [...]
